2024 Santiago School
The 2024 Doctoral School was held in conjunction with the RC21 Conference (24-26 July 2014) in Santiago de Chile on the theme of “The politics and spaces of encounters: advancing dialogues between and within the Global North and the Global South” . The School was co-organised by RC21 in collaboration with scholars from several institutions in Santiago: the University of Chile (UCH) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), working in cooperation through COES: the Center for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies. 2022 Virtual School
A small group of PhD students in urban related disciplines who were actively working on their thesis/dissertation met via zoom. The students presented their work, read each other’s work, and provided feedback to their peers, coordinated and led by one faculty member serving as an academic advisor. Students met for one 2-3 hour meeting on April 7/8, May 12/13, and June 9/10. A workshop on how to publish papers in urban studies followed these sessions. 2019 Delhi School
The 6th Doctoral School in Comparative Urban Studies took place in Delhi (India) from the 7th to 21st September 2019. The School was held in conjunction with the RC21 Conference (18th-21st September) held in Delhi on the theme of “In and Beyond the City: Emerging Ontologies, Persistent Challenges and Hopeful Futures”. 2017 London & Leeds School
In August and September 2017, the 5th RC21-IJURR-IJURR Foundation Summer School in Comparative Urban Studies was held in London and Leeds (UK), in conjunction with the RC21 Conference on the theme of “Rethinking urban global justice” held on September 11-13.

2009 São Paulo School
The inaugural School was held in São Paulo (Brazil), in August 2009. It was hosted by Eduardo Marques and the Centre for Metropolitan Studies (CEM) at the University of São Paulo. Twenty-six graduate students and recent PhD graduates from all over the world participated. They came from Lebanon, Spain, Mexico, USA, China, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Greece, Turkey, Canada, India, Belgium, Peru and Brazil.
Speakers at the School included John Logan (from the USA), Edmond Preteceille (France), Enzo Mingione (Italy), Jan-Willem Duyvendak (Netherlands), Yuri Kazepov (Italy and RC21) and Jeremy Seekings (South Africa/USA and IJURR), together with Raquel Rolnik, Nadya Guimaraes, Ilse Scherer-Warren and Eduardo Marques (all from Brazil). The School combined formal academic sessions, visits to different parts of São Paulo, and some memorable social events.
