Environment‐Related Litigation in Rio de Janeiro: Shaping Frames for a New Social Problem

Abstract

This article aims to contribute to an understanding of how the environment is constituted as a social problem in Rio de Janeiro. In order to account for the local contours of this global phenomenon, it considers contextual aspects that frame environmental conflicts in Rio de Janeiro and examines certain relevant cultural resources. An analysis of the accounts of two actors involved in environmental litigation serves as the point of departure for an inventory of the versions of environment available for public debate.
