This article shifts the discourse on globalization and world cities from the commonplace and dominant foci on finance and advanced producer services to logistics and distribution, handmaidens of world trade. It focuses on one company (UPS Airlines) and one city (Louisville, Kentucky) in a case study that shows how local economic development efforts combined with expansion of air‐cargo delivery services in the context of globalization to transform Louisville into a distributive world city.
